Making Yorkshire Shine
Just nine months since its launch, Leeds-based modelling and promotional agency, Shine, is already on its way to establishing itself as one of Yorkshire's brightest new companies.
To date, Shine's staff have worked on more than 40 promotional campaigns around the region and Shine's models have featured in photo shoots and television commercials for national hairdressing chains, jewellers, lingerie brands and retailers.
Shine's founder, Emily Hacker, first thought of Shine after she relocated back to her native Yorkshire from London, where she worked as an advertising executive for Sky Television.
"Yorkshire was crying out for an agency like Shine. Most companies were buying in models or promotional staff from London or Manchester agencies, who do not know the local market and which haven't tapped in to the local talent," the 23-year-old says.
"Because we use local models, and we take the time to get to know them all personally, we are able to offer a more personal service to our clients. And they do not need to pay for models to travel in from outside the region." The advertising experience of Shine's founders is another factor that has added to Shine's early success. "We decided from the outset that we wanted our promo staff to do more than just look great. We also wanted staff with brains, who would work hard to contribute to the success of our clients' campaigns, whether that be generating sales leads or launching a new product," explains Hacker. Shine's refreshing approach extends to the way it works with its staff too. Having worked as a model and promo girl herself while attending Sheffield Hallam University, Emily Hacker, was all too familiar with the way most agencies treat their staff:
"Late payments, poor briefs and bad communication are the norm in this industry, but for clients this translates to a potentially unreliable and unmotivated worker. So far we have built a great relationship with all our staff and apart from making Shine a fun place to work; this approach is also paying off for Shine's clients."
Shine provided the models for this issue of H2B's cover and our autumn/winter fashion feature.
