The Damn Yankee

Category: £20 - £30
An evening at “The Damn Yankee” is a pleasant and enjoyable one for all the family. Situated at White Cross, Guiseley it is one of several speciality restaurants in the area. The Damn Yankee is a traditional American Diner with a true American theme throughout; the stars and stripes feature alongside a variety of billboard posters of well-known films and actors from the U.S.A.
Upon on arrival we were met by pleasant waitresses, our drinks order was taken and we were shown to our table within minutes. Our drinks were brought across and we were then given ample time to browse the menu and choose and then choose again, as all meals sounded really nice.
The starters ranged from Crusty Garlic Bread at £2.95; Nachos at £4.30; Brie Bajas at £4.50; to Creole Calamari at £4.95. I chose Tijuana Mushrooms at £4.45 whilst the others chose Pizza Base with Tomato and Garlic and Plain and Chicken and Bacon Nachos. The starters arrived along with extra side plates so that we could all have a taste of each other’s, the portions were generous for starters and if this was the start of things would we really be able to eat our main courses?
The mains ranged from Italian lasagnes and pizzas, Chinatown’s sweet and sour chicken, Texas Steaks and Tex–Mex options to Damn Yankee burgers for the more traditional fayre. I chose to have Tuna Steak (£12.95) served with Vine Tomato and Onion Salsa, side salad and chips. The Tuna was griddled to perfection keeping in moisture and taste. My partner ordered Rib Eye Steak (£13.50) again cooked to his liking with onion rings, chips and salad. The Original Damn Yankee Burger consisted of two 1/4lb burgers on a toasted seeded bun, chips and salad. The Beef Burrito with salad was too much for one to eat and could have easily been shared. Here again the portions were generous and more than a match for the healthy appetite.
After the first two courses we couldn’t manage dessert, but watching the other diner’s tuck into the home-made Hot Chocolate Brownies, Maple and Pecan Sticky Toffee Pudding and American Buttermilk Pancakes we thought, should we have forfeit our starters to leave room for such delights?
