Webster’s of Baildon

When entering the spacious and well laid out restaurant of Webster’s the care and attention that has been put into the dining space by Mrs. Anne Webster was very apparent.  My partner and I were welcomed and seated by a friendly member of staff that immediately put us at ease and comfort, ready for the ultimate fish and chip experience.  Although a difficult genre of food to perceive as modern, the restaurant has captured a bright and contemporary ambience pleasant for all ages.  Children are most welcome here, with high chairs and a children’s section in the menu.

The menu itself provides the traditional options that you would assume to find in a restaurant of this type, however there are vegetarian options and alternatives to fish based meals such as Burgers and salads.  I chose to have the battered Haddock and my partner chose the scampi, both served with chips and my personal favourite, mushy peas.  The service was extremely efficient and there was only a small waiting time for our food to be served.

When the food arrived both meals were piping hot and looked very appetising.  As I broke into the light crispy batter encapsulating the moist firm Haddock I couldn’t wait to have a taste.  I can say whole heartedly, I was not disappointed.  The fish was obviously very fresh, and the scampi was firm and tasty with a light breadcrumb coating.  The chips were some of the best I have ever tasted, light golden brown and crisp; definitely fried but not of the greasy variety.  The mushy peas were what I would describe as ‘a normal colour’ not luminous as I have experienced in other places.  This suggests to me that they are home made, which was backed up my the delicious flavour and consistency.  Customers also have the choice to have a baked potato with their meal instead of chips, this makes the restaurant appealing to a wider range of customers as there are many combinations of main and side dishes available.

The staff checked back on us twice during our dining period, making sure we had everything we needed and that everything was satisfactory with our meal.  The menu was very reasonably priced, £5.75 for Haddock & Chips and £7.25 for Scampi & Chips, making it a perfect pit stop for those shopping in Baildon or an excellent dining destination for any person looking to sample a delicious fish and chip dinner.  A tempting range of desserts were on offer such as Sticky Toffee Pudding; Pineapple Surprise and ‘old fashioned’ Curd Tart.

So, if you want to experience a piece of quintessential British tradition in the beautiful setting of Baildon, Webster’s is definitely the place to find yourself.
