The Lime Tree

Category: Under £20
Jed the owner of Citrus in Headingley has expanded to West Park just up the road, with this in mind I was reluctant to dine at The Lime Tree. The last thing I want is to dine in a restaurant full of students, having to listen to them dribble on and watch them eat lentils and vegetarian quiche.
The Lime Tree is worlds apart from what I expected. No sign of baggy jumpered socialists yearning organic fayre. This place is cool with a great atmosphere and the staff are top class.
The atmosphere is vibrant and non pretentious yet retaining a classy feel. The interior is contemporary and minimalist. The tables are a little too close together for my liking but I suppose this adds to the atmosphere. Above all the food is far better than I expected. This place is great for a pizza and a bottle of wine, especially if it’s warm as there is a huge outdoor umbrella with heaters & lights where you can sit and watch the world go by.
So what did we order?
Starters:
King scallops wrapped in bacon, creamed cannelloni beans £6:95
Feta, roast tomatoes & red onion tart (v) £4:95
Black pudding & caramelised apple £5:95
Garlic pizza bread with tomato sauce £3:45
Mains:
Lobster ravioli £7:95
Fettuccine and meatballs £7:95
Margherita pizza (v) £6:95
Rib eye steak £13:45
No sides were needed
Puddings: All £3:95
Rich & dark chocolate tart with chantilly cream
Lemon tart with raspberry coulis.
Wine:
Kingfish Shiraz £14:95
Cokes £1:25
The food is very good, my two children loved everything they ordered as did we, and my steak had not a morsel of fat on it and was cooked to perfection. The ravioli apparently was a little rich, but never-the-less very tasty.
We were still sat two hours after we arrived, we really took our time and never once did we feel rushed. To say it was a Saturday night & people were queuing to get in – this was a really good sign. We will, without a doubt, go back there and trust me, for me to say this is rare. From starter to pudding every course was very good.
A real bonus to this place is that families are welcomed with open arms to the point where smaller cutlery is available with plastic glasses and a children’s menu for only £4:95. I just wish my kids would have ordered from it!
