Thai Edge

A picture of the inside of the restuarant

The last time I visited Thai Edge was at their opening about five years ago. We had a super night then and I have to say little had changed. Again we had a fantastic night, yes the company was good and let’s face it, if you’re in good company it makes most nights good.

Thai Edge is situated adjacent to millennium square, offering great views over that part of Leeds.  Thai Edge now have three other restaurants in Cardiff and two in Birmingham and have won two AA rosettes for the last four years. They are a new breed of lifestyle restaurants in selected city locations. They are the epitome of contemporary oriental design where you will be welcomed Thai style.

The menu has over 145 dishes, which is extensive to say the least. This is the main reason we opted for the set menu as it made life so much easier. All four of us agreed this was the best option.  The one we chose was actually for six people, however we asked very nicely if they could adapt it to suit four people and in their customary delightful manner, they agreed.

The starters were really good, even though the fish cakes were not what we expected, not the traditional style that most of us are accustomed to, they were flat - which I found strange.  However, they tasted really good even though they were not aesthetically pleasing. Everything was polished off - apart from the Pandanus leaves of course.

By this time we were on to our second bottle of El Coto, Rioja Rosado. A beautiful rose wine with a palate of strawberries and raspberries with a refreshing finish. At £14.50 a bottle, we could not get enough.

The lobster was next which had a really nice taste to it, however we all found it difficult to eat as it was smothered in the garlic and chilli sauce which made it very slippery. Considering we were dressed up to go drinking after our meal, we were all timid about getting splattered. We would have enjoyed it much more if we had been given the large bibs you are sometimes offered. That said, it tasted very good.

Then the mains started coming and coming and coming. Each dish looking better than the one before. Soon our table was bulging. At this point I slowed down and started to take in the atmosphere and really enjoy everything Thai Edge had to offer. The food, the atmosphere, the wine, the company and especially the service were all fantastic.

When reviewing restaurants you start to look for fault and indeed compare cuisines, service, décor etc. to other venues; there is the possibility of becoming over cynical. This is why I like to take guests to get a more equal view point. At Thai Edge we all had similar views to what I have written.

This restaurant is very good, a great place to have both a large party night out and a romantic night for two. The service here is second to none which is its most redeeming feature. We finished off with a bowl of fresh sculptured fruit, all peeled and easy to eat. And, of course, another swift bottle of Rioja.
