The Mustard Pot, Leeds

food This once regarded `bit of a rough pub` has undergone extensive renovations. Throwing out the old and introducing the new. Not only replacing the interior, the clientele has also been refurbished.

The Mustard Pot is without question one of the best eateries based on value for money in Leeds. The décor is lush and contemporary. With a warm homely feel to it. Marble tops, dark wooden floors, quality wicker chairs and amazing art adorning the walls. What’s more the food, the service and the atmosphere are right up my street. In fact this place is, without a doubt, a haven for food lovers who like a relaxed atmosphere with a bar feel.

When we arrived it was 1:30 on a wet Tuesday afternoon. There were only six other diners, however the atmosphere was cool. Not uninviting like most quite restaurants. We ordered; Baked Scallops with Gruyere Cheese and Garlic Butter £6.00 (for six).

Pan Seared Feta Cheese, Tomato and Red Onion Salsa £4.00. We decided to share a third starter as we were starving. Roasted Belly Pork with Fondant Potato, Cider and Apple Jus £6.00. At the risk of sounding like I have just come out of ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’, in other words, would crave any decent food. The starters were outstanding especially the belly pork. I had died and gone to heaven.

The mains were Mini Sirloin Joint, Honey Glazed Carrots, Buttered Cabbage and Red Wine Gravy £9.00. Slow braised Lamb Shank, Mashed Potatoes, Caramelised Shallots and Gravy £9.00. No sides were needed as the portions were more than adequate and included veg. The meat fell off the bone, the gravy, and the jus, everything was first class. Yet only £9.00.

The guy serving was the owner. Whose professionalism was equalled only in the very best restaurants.

Never did we feel un-attended or indeed, not in a first class eatery. The diners were all well dressed and appeared polite.

I’m really pleased to have found a restaurant that serves first class food at Yorkshire prices, without compromising on service or the quality of the surroundings.

The Mustard Pot also has a farmers’ market on last Sunday of every month in its car park. I understand that The Mustard Pot purchases most of its produce from the local farmers. It certainly shows.

Food is served 12 till 2 and 6 till10 five days, and 12 till 7 on Sundays. Children are very welcome.
