Thai Edge, Leeds
A friend and I recently had the
pleasure of eating at Thai Edge in
Leeds city centre. I arrived fashionably
late (as usual!). My friend was already
sitting comfortably on the comfy sofas
looking over Millennium Square which
at certain times of the year, is a
fabulous view varying from ice skating
rinks to concert arenas and the best
thing is you are only 50m from a
Champagne bar.
On arrival you are greeted in a very traditional Thai manner which is a good start to generally, a good evening in this well established eatery. The decor in Thai Edge is clean, crisp and traditional offering Thai lovers a real treat. The décor and panoramic glass windows give the place a very spacious feeling.
We were asked if we wanted to go straight to our table or have a drink at the bar. We decided to go straight to our table as I had not eaten all day and was really looking forward to eating. It was a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was over seventy percent full, with the odd celebrity eating there too. I can imagine that when this restaurant is quiet it would feel cold and you would stand out.
For starters we had Keaeng Juad (chicken, pork and vegetables). This is a Thai style soup with glass noodles, seaweed and deep fried garlic. Poh Pia (crispy spring roll stuffed with vermicelli and white cabbage). Both our starters were incredibly tasty and the presentation was great. We cleaned our plates and both of us agreed that they were particularly enjoyable. In typical Thai style the presentation was first class with carved vegetables and nice dips. For mains we had Guneg Ped Gui (Thai Red curry) and Gung Pa Gai (Thai Jungle curry) we both opted for chicken versions and to accompany these we had Thai Sticky Rice. The mains were just as tasty as the starters the flavours were amazing. If anything, the lemongrass came through too strong, however, overall they were very good. Also the portions were too big perhaps they should consider making the starters smaller as half way though our mains we were stuffed, however, typical me, I carried on eating until I had to loosen a button.
We were offered the sweet menu but we declined as we just too full to tackle anything else. We finished off with coffee.
As far as Thai restaurants go, Thai Edge is very good, the setting makes this restaurant a little better than it actually is. The food is excellent but not world class, the service, as with all Thai restaurants, is spot on.
