Waterfront, Leeds

Waterfront The Waterfront restaurant and late night bar is a stylish, decadent venue situated at Brewery Place in Leeds City Centre on the South Bank of the river Aire. The south bank is the new happening part of the city with many new restaurants and bars appealing to the uber trendy of Leeds city centre. The Waterfront is an ideal place to escape from the fast pace life of Leeds city centre.

The Waterfront has a large bar area to the front with Alfresco dining available for those summer months (roll on those summer months). The restaurant is at the back of the venue with booth seating overlooking the river. I have to mention the mural on the ceiling of the bar area, which is a stunning and impressive feature.

I visited the Waterfront on an extremely wet and windy January evening, yet the restaurant was cosy and inviting and had a steady arrival of people throughout the evening.

We choose to sit in one of the booths overlooking the river Aire. The atmosphere was relaxed but very professional at the same time. The staff were very attentive, but not too over the top.

The Waterfront is very much Italian inspired with both an a la carte and sharing menu. There is plenty to choose from and the pizzas come in A5 (1 slice), A3 for two people and A2 for three people or more.

On arrival we were greeted and asked if we wanted to eat or have a drink at the bar, we went straight though to the restaurant and were given a choice of table.

For starters we had garlic tomato bread to share (wow, it was amazing). We then chose Gamberoni slow roasted king prawns with garlic, wine, chilli, lemon and parsley oil and bread @ £6.50 and Seafood Risotto, a real southern Italian dish, with fresh squid, mussels and Mediterranean king prawns with chilli and garlic oil @ £4.95.

Both the starters were delicious and I would highly recommend both dishes. The risotto was cooked to perfection, this was not my official starter but I think I tucked into most of it, leaving the prawns to my partner who thankfully thought they were simply divine. For mains we choose Merlin and Squid with linguini @ £12.50 and the Wild Boar served with maple and cinnamon roasted vegetables in valpolicella wine sauce @ £12.95. Both dishes were great, my partner thought the wild boar was just fantastic and raved on about the maple sauce. By this time we were both full, but it would have been rude not to look at the sweet menu. By the time it arrived, our dinner had settled, so we decided to indulge (our January diet was now well and truly out of the window). We ordered Banana Brulee and Chocolate fondant with chocolate ice-cream. Oh my, both desserts were beautiful. We shared again, and I think the chocolate fondant was the most popular. We finished with coffee.

I have to say if you fancy getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, pop down to the South bank and visit the Waterfront. I will be going back very soon.
