The Honeymoon
Honeymoons used to be organised solely by the
groom and kept as a surprise, however, now couples
tend to organise the honeymoon together. This
then allows the trip to be somewhere that both
the bride and groom wish to visit and means it
can be properly researched and planned. It is usually
a place neither the bride or groom has ever visited
before, but which has unique and romantic
qualities that they can both enjoy. Each couple
is different; some couples prefer action and
adventure, whereas others prefer culture and
relaxation. It is also important to bear in mind
the weather, length of flight, food and activities
available. It is a good idea to get a travel agent to
help create a bespoke trip, but it is a nice touch for
the groom to keep a few aspects of the trip a secret
in order to surprise his bride when they are away.
Mostly the budget of the couple will determine what options are available to them with regards destination and length of time away. It is usual for the couple to spend two or three weeks away, however, some couples may decide to take the opportunity to travel around the world and so may wish to be away for longer. The couple should really bear in mind that all of the wedding tension before-hand plus early starts and long flights can cause some unnecessary tension. Therefore, comfort, luxury and privacy are really important for the beginning of the honeymoon so the couple can get some rest and recuperate. Jumping straight onto a flight is a bad idea and it is better for the couple to have a few nights in a hotel or at home before jetting off on their honeymoon. Packing well in advance will also ensure that the couple can just relax before they go away. NB. The bride’s tickets and passport must be in the same name whether it be married or maiden.
The couple should be well organised before they travel, making sure they have insurance, the correct inoculations, marriage certificates, visas and passports. They should inform airlines and hotels that they are on honeymoon as this may entitle them to upgrades or any other treats. If they let their tour operators know this then they can help to make the trip more special.
