Setting the Style

The style of the wedding is entirely up to the couple depending on their budget. They must also decide whether they wish to have a religious or civil ceremony. The season in which the wedding will take place will set the tone for dress, food, weather and flowers. The theme of the wedding must fit the venue’s surroundings and style for example; a city wedding could require more sophisticated surroundings than a countryside wedding. The priorities will be different for an intimate day with less than 100 guests than for a large wedding catering for over 100 people.

When deciding on a theme, colour must be taken into consideration. The simplest combinations are often the most successful and can be reflected throughout the day. Decide on ivory or white, gold or silver and then another colour such as pink or blue. The bridesmaids usually coordinate with the chosen colour and bouquets, ribbons, candles and napkins must also be considered. Once a decision has been made, all elements of the day must be considered in this light from start to finish.

It is a wonderful idea to add personal touches to a wedding for example, if a family member or friend is a brilliant cake maker, florist or entertainer, then ask them if they would be happy to use their skills and get involved in the wedding. Note that it is important not to make anyone feel uncomfortable or out of pocket. Be sure to tell friends that you are asking for their help in order to make the wedding more personal rather than using them as a way to save money.

Venue costs will depend on which day of the week has been chosen and what time of year it is. Choosing to marry mid week at a quiet time of year may keep wedding costs to a minimum.
