The Shoes
Good quality,
comfortable shoes
are essential for the
wedding day so that the
bride doesn’t have to worry
about her feet rubbing and
hurting. In order to guarantee
comfort, an expensive pair of
well-fitting shoes should be bought.
The shoes must suit the dress and should
be taken along to dress fittings.
Silk or satin are normal fabrics for wedding shoes as they are soft and can easily be dyed to fit in with the fabric of the dress. Leather is too harsh. The shape of the shoe is important, especially at the front as this is the part that will be on show the most. The bride must decide whether she would prefer open or closed-toe shoes.
Heels improve posture and ensure the bride walks more slowly and elegantly, but they should not be too high as the day will be long and the bride shouldn’t have to worry about discomfort later in the day. Kitten heels are a good compromise to prevent discomfort.
If the bride is taller than the groom or is aware of her height she may prefer to wear flat shoes such as court shoes or even ballet pumps.
The bride should wear her shoes in around the house and should never leave it until the wedding day to wear them for the first time. They should be worn with care and it is a good idea to cover them with socks to protect them. Shoes with leather or smooth soles should be scored to prevent slipping.
Wedding shoes made out of silk or satin can easily be dyed afterwards so that the bride can get further use out of them.
