Hair

hair A bride must bear lots of things in mind when deciding which hair style she is going to have for her wedding day e.g. her hair type, face shape, style of dress and veil/headpiece. Remember that her head will be viewed from the back and sides as well as the front so the style should look good from all angles.

If the bride has a fairly simple dress the hair should be equally as simple and the same is true if the opposite applies. The three basic styles to consider are: leaving it down, having it up or half-up-half-down. Brides should remember to settle for a style that will not allow any hair to fall into the eyes so, if choosing a softer style, with some loose pieces to frame the face, think about the practicalities of this.

A non-restrictive style that will last all day is the best option for a bride and she should steer clear of a style that she would never usually wear as she may regret this when she looks at the wedding photos. Once the dress has been chosen the hair style can be established and the right accessories found to best complement the overall look. It is important to have hair practice appointments only once the outfit has been chosen.

It is imperative to go to a hairdresser that is used to styling hair for weddings and personal recommendations are preferable for this aspect of the planning. The bride should decide how many people will need their hair styling on the day and how long each of them will take. Find out in advance whether the hairdresser is willing to come to the bride on the morning of the wedding or whether the bride and her entourage will need to go to the salon. It is preferable for the hairdresser to visit the bride as it will save time and other logistical problems.

It is a good idea for the bride to make a collection of cuttings and photographs of styles she likes to take to the hairdresser with her for the rehearsal. She should also wear a top with a similar neck line to the dress and bring along any accessories she plans to wear on the day in order to see which hair style will work best once everything is put together. Taking a photo of the rehearsal and then again a few hours later will test the longevity of the style and allow the bride to decide whether she really does like it or not.

Bridesmaids shouldn’t need a rehearsal, but their styles should be discussed with the hairdresser in advance and it may be necessary for him or her to meet them in order to see their hair types.

It is important that the bride does not experiment with a new hair style or colour for at least three months before the wedding. Her hair should look enhanced, not completely different on the wedding day and should be allowed to grow so that up-dos can be possible. On the wedding day the bride should not wash her hair before it is styled as certain styles and hair slides may not hold if the hair is too sleek.
