Almost any type of flower can be obtained at any time of year from abroad so that prevents a bride from feeling restricted, however, it is recommended that a bride use seasonal flowers as they will be fresher and less expensive. Here is a guide to the best flowers to use at different times of the year:

Spring
Narcissi, Tulips, Muscari, Cherry Blossom, Honeysuckle, Cymbidium, Orchid, Lily of the Valley.

Summer
Peonies, Hydrangea, Garden Rose, Gardenia, Frescia, Iris, Sweet Pea, Lavender, Cornflower.

Autumn
Alstromeria, Dahlia, Antique Rose, Phalaenopsis, Orchid, Lisianthus, Michaelmas Daisy.

Winter
Amaryllis, Snowdrop, English Arum, Velvet Rose, Mistletoe, Snowberry, Winter Jasmine.

Traditionally a bride will throw her bouquet into the crowd and a single woman who catches it is believed to receive good fortune in love and will be next to marry. If the bride wishes to keep the bouquet she may wish to get it back off the catcher or she may want to have a spare bouquet made up especially to throw so she can keep the original. Hanging the bouquet upside down in a dark place will help to preserve the flowers after the day. There are also professional companies who preserve the bouquet by freeze-drying it.
