The Seafood Trail
If you are a seafood a ‘Fish’ I onado the Scenic Fish
Trail is for you. There are 10 different points of interest
on The Seafood Trail, from hotels and restaurants to
snack bars and mail order specialists, all boasting
breathtaking views, unique waterfront locations, access
to the freshest local produce and an understanding
of the environmental issues that concern the Scottish
fishing industry.
All Seafood Trail members are determined to showcase Argyll’s natural larder from the deep and have built strong relationships with local producers. After all, the real heroes are the fisherman themselves who deliver the lobsters, halibut, crabs and scallops all the way to our shores.
They do say fish is good for the grey matter, so perhaps it is no surprise that the owner of The Anchor Hotel in Tarbert came up with the brainwave of the seafood trail. Mulling over how to lure tourists down to Kintyre and the surrounding area, she hooked on the perfect bait - seafood, plenty of it and fresh from water to plate.
On a glorious sunny day the drive along the twisting road hugging the north shores of the Loch Fyne towards Lochgilphead is breathtaking. The tiny village of Tayvallich can be found by turning off the B841 down the single track B8025 along the banks of Loch Sween.
The mouth watering menu is courtesy of an entrepreneurial young yachtsman Roddy Anderson who has given up his previous professional life skippering luxury boats around foreign shores to return home to run a restaurant and transport cafe, which once belonged to his father. It is hard to believe that the conservatory-fronted Tayvallich Inn with decking, awnings, patio heaters and stunning views over Loch a Bhealaich started life as a bus garage.
